Meningococcal Disease
Date: 23rd June 2008
Meningococcal disease is a serious infection caused by bacteria. It can cause septicaemia (a severe infection of the bloodstream) or meningitis (swelling of the membranes and fluid that covers the brain and spinal cord).
The symptoms can develop very quickly and can lead to death in as little as 24 hours. It is important to get medical attention as soon as possible. Check the person regularly and don’t leave them alone.
